So yea, I just deleted ALL of my mail (so like 2 years worth of messages between me and at least a hundred people), and my game instantly got a FPS boost of about 5-10 FPS. Yea, that happened.

BLUB Can you confirm the performance boost is consistent and not just coincidence? How do you see exact FPS anyway?
I can see the current FPS on my monitor, how else?
And obviously, if you see a boost sitting from no deleted stuff to seeing a actual boost when the stuff is deleted, obviously it was due to the things getting deleted.

BLUB I do like it. I like it a lot. Well I hate it, but I like that we can patch the problem.
You're welcome.
Oh, and it seems that the fitting window is slightly faster when you get rid of a large mass of items. It's not much, but it's there.

a consumer can buy one of those?

DJINN Jecture wrote:We also encountered this issue before and CCP themselves suggested deleting mail, why no fix before now? I'll check and see if I can still find the bug reports filed about it.
EDIT: apparently the Bug Report Section is gone from the forums wow ok, going through my tickets
Edit 2: Ok no old tickets on this subject must be in the old Bug Reports section of the forums from one or the other Betas.
Bug report section is still here.

BLUB I do like it. I like it a lot. Well I hate it, but I like that we can patch the problem. I have been deleting all my mail as it comes in, and I still think there are FPS issues in general. Just sayin.
That is obvious, I'm pointing out one.

BLUB I do like it. I like it a lot. Well I hate it, but I like that we can patch the problem. I have never deleted any mail. I still have all the Corp application notifications from when I was a Director at DUST University and the Corp had over 1800 members. Then there are probably another thousand application/acceptance notification pairs from Immortal Guides. Maybe I should at the very least consider deleting everything in my Corp mailbox... Yeah I mean that's kind of the thing, I have tons of contacts and old mails lying around too. They seem to have very little correlation with my FPS/stability. Given my personal experience and the lack of any likely mechanism for interaction between contacts/mail and in-match framerate, I really don't think these are related. (Though I could very easily be wrong on this. Game code does weird, weird stuff very often.) I'm pretty sure though that chat channels have an effect, but the subtlety of what precisely causes the issue there still seems to be unknown. EDIT: Adding that, even though the Contacts list probably isn't causing issues, I wouldn't be surprised if the oft-forgotten Watch List is. May be worth looking into.
Well, seeing as I've tested it, and it did have an effect, I doubt that.

Celus Ivara wrote:@Godin & Slave, Hrmm, well if you guys say you saw a correlation, then you saw a correlation. I'm no going to say you didn't. That's so weird though! There's no good reason for mail to effect in-match FPS. .... I think the key phrase there is " good reason". There's a saying in software development: First: Get it working. Then: Get it working right. Then: Get it working fast. I'm starting to suspect that in the insane crunch of getting Dust shipped in time for the much desired May 14th (aka: 514), that a lot of code was left at stage 1 or 2. Despite being a bit embarrassing, it would actually be pretty great if that turns out to be the case. It'd mean we could hypothetically get some substantial returns from some "simple" polish passes on our legacy code.
It's probably a memory thing.
